Also great for risky rapid drying when time feels tight. I have only broken a few things this way…..luckily, with clay you can just reclaim and start again.

I was able to fit in one last firing of 2025 before the studio gets swept and scrubbed, the kiln elements replaced, scrap clay finally gets recycled, and lots of sketching for 2026 ensues.

No linens but lots of handmade porcelain tableware on my webshop for you here.

December has quickly become one of my favorite months- we just had our first snow, and I have been bundling up and going for a crisp walk to wake me up in the morning. I love the feeling of the cold winter air on my face. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and vegetable soup simmering on the stove. A stack of books waiting for me to get around to. I have been spending long days in my sunny studio, and have the fruits of that labor and love up now for you to peruse. I didn’t make quite as many pots as I wanted to, but I hope you can find something for you or yours.

It is overly ambitious to clearly define where what I make comes from, a great deal of it being subconscious rumblings and regurgitations of an accumulation of things I saw and experienced that made me feel something. However, I can say the overarching influence of my most recent functional ceramics is the product of diving into the history of porcelain production in Europe alongside folk craft. I discovered the deep ties European porcelain manufactures had to the Aristocracy, being owned by and made for the the upper classes basically since the formula was discovered. The heart of the European porcelain factories I have been studying is Sèvres in Hauts-de-Seine, France which has been owned by the French crown or government since 1759.
I simultaneously became enthralled with folk crafts and how the imagery used often mirrored everyday country life and floral motif, no gold to be found on those.

I think making ceramics for the people by the people is more important now more than ever.
